Festejos is an electrifying live production featuring the dynamic dancers of Calidanza Dance Company alongside the vibrant sounds of the Vinic Kay musical ensemble from Oakland. This colorful journey brings to life a wide range of Mexico’s most beloved celebrations—from powerful pre-Hispanic ceremonies to the exuberant Guelaguetza of Oaxaca, the high-energy fandangos of Veracruz’s Sotavento region, and many more festive traditions from across the country. Filled with music, movement, and joyful storytelling, Festejos invites audiences to feel the rhythm, join the celebration, and experience the heart of Mexico’s cultural spirit, with special performances honoring Mother’s Day.

Artistic Director Steven Valencia is a shining star in the world of Ballet Folklórico in the United States. A 4th generation Mexican-American, he was honored in 2011 with the Maestro Award from the Latino Arts Network of California and the California Arts Council, recognizing him as a Master of Cultural Practice in the Arts and a Leader in the Latino Community. More than a dozen years ago, Valencia fulfilled his life-long dream: to create a professional dance company dedicated to “calidad“ – quality, creative dance, community, and cultural affirmation.  Calidanza is that Company. An ensemble of highly skilled and dedicated dancers working with creative musicians and costume designers, Calidanza bring the vibrant joy of Mexican dance, music, and culture to audiences of all generations.
