Description
Join the California Mexican American Veterans Memorial Committee, veterans, families, and community leaders for a special Memorial Day Ceremony honoring the sacrifices, service, and legacy of those who served our nation.
Held at the El Soldado Monument at the corner of 10th Street and Capitol Mall, this annual gathering brings together the community to reflect, remember, and recognize the courage of Mexican American veterans whose contributions helped shape our country and our communities.
This year’s ceremony will feature special guest speakers including Luisa Varela, United States Navy veteran and member of the American GI Forum Sacramento Chapter, whose service as a Culinary Specialist aboard the USS Makin Island and USS Bunker Hill exemplifies leadership, discipline, and commitment both in and out of uniform. Today, Luisa continues her service to the community as Director of Operations for the Veteran Entrepreneur Tribe of Sacramento (VETS), helping fellow veterans transition into entrepreneurship and meaningful careers.
The program will also feature Wendy Mireya, retired U.S. Navy Chief Petty Officer and veteran community leader from Southern California, who continues to advocate for veterans through her work with the VFW and statewide veteran initiatives.
Together, we will honor all who served, remember those we have lost, and reaffirm our commitment to supporting veterans and their families.
