Azucena Hernandez was born and raised in the Mission District of San Francisco, California. In 2019, she moved to Sacramento to be closer to family and call it her home. She worked in the funeral industry for more than 6 years and within that time, she honored many families with memorial portraits of their loved ones. Using the traditional practice of pyrography, she creates striking photorealistic portraits and images by burning them into wood by hand. In the summer of 2022, she decided to pursue her dream of being a full time artist and departed the funeral world. She now dedicates her days to creating pieces that will inspire and honor those that have passed on.
